Fossil Mako (Planus) shark teeth from Bakersfield, California are some of the most common and well-preserved shark teeth in the world. They are found in the Temblor Formation, which is a marine rock formation that dates back to the Middle Miocene epoch (about 15.5 million years ago). Mako (Planus) shark teeth are characterized by their triangular shape, sharp point, and serrated edges. They are typically yellow to brown in color, but can also be black or white. Mako (Planus) shark teeth are found in a variety of sizes, but the largest specimens can measure up to 2 inches long.
